Artist Statement

I work mainly in figurative style using the mediums of graphite, watercolor, and collage on paper. For all the mediums which I work in, I am completely self-taught.

Serving the process regardless of medium keeps me endlessly engaged in wanting to create. It is this joy that is reflected in each piece.

®CINEFIELDS

"Flat, two-dimensional visual works of art on paper which create the feeling of movie-like narratives through a composition of image rich and story like printed pictures".

All my Cinefield® work is done utilizing traditional collage technique of cutting out images with scissors and fixing them with adhesive to paper. I never use any digital magic. Importantly, all the images that I use are from photos which I personally took. They all measure 11x17 inches.

The goal for me with this medium is creating a sort of open-ended narrative, the viewer creating the story in their own mind’s eye, different for each person. This allows for repeated viewings without loss of tension. I prefer density in all my work regardless of medium. Cinefield® greatly facilitates that bent so that if you look at a piece several times without distraction, each time will be noticed new little surprises akin to the effect of when looking at Hieronymus Bosch or Pieter Bruegel.

My medium for painting is watercolors. I work in the figurative style. I use paper of varying sizes from 4x4 inches to 11x17. I also vary the compositional make-up of the paper from French cotton paper to tan multimedia paper.
