Memory Museum

Stories within this collection include a detective who no longer fits in with the times. On the verge of retiring, He wonders if he is entering into what will be a final or next act.

There are other pieces in which characters contemplate loneliness, desire, nostalgia and ambition; while navigating a world their pasts helped create.

The diverse settings and characters show how memory and its connection to geographies can control actions.

Blinky

Blinky is a collection of short stories and essays.

Subjectwise, they are all over the map, linked by the feeling that they are akin to anecdotes one would be told in a bar, bed, café, party, or while taking a walk.

Each one is a tiny world unto itself, even if only the size of a paragraph, which I hope the reader enjoys visiting.r

Voyages

Voyages is a collection of stories and essays revolving around the theme of movement. Spread out within these pieces there is the inner movement of thought and the outer one of the body, from place to place. Occurring sometimes is the unexpected casualty of how one affects the other

Funeral Clothes

Funeral Clothes is a book revolving around the idea of change. Some changes can be facilitated and sought after like those of lifestyles. While others, such as passions, philosophies and life itself can not be controlled. We can not choose when a favorite song ceases to be an intangible treasure, nor when eventually mortality asserts itself. Through a series of short stories and two essays the inevitability of change is explored along with how ultimately, only how we deal with it is ours.

Keeper of the Blue

Although not a war novel, “Keeper of the Blue” occurs within the framework of the Spanish Civil war. The story is seen mainly through the eyes of middle-aged professor of literature turned Republican officer named Horace. Via flashbacks and inner musings, the narrative reveals Horace’s past which went towards making him the man he is at the novel’s start. The reader also gets to know members of his platoon, various villagers and evacuees. The novel is rich with good people making bad decisions out of fear, enemy soldiers momentarily ignoring politics for the sake of human kindness and doing what is right and fellow soldiers, who towards the end, see the chaos as a means to make money. The war time journey finds Horace becoming a version of himself that he had never imagined yet ultimately does not regret. From humanist to solider, the bachelor into a father and idealist into jaded veteran.

Gossip

At its best, the stream of life is like a great jazz standard. There is the familiar melody but with each player there are infinite variations and improvisations occurring within the known framework. Not just what the player says but the way in which it is said, the tone, make it worth revisiting. Further variation derives from our perceptions. One person’s requiem is another’s calliope.

Here is my riffing on humanity, flurries of notes darkly funny, tragic and image rich
